BACKGROUND:
( wiki link )
Yuuri’s world is very much present-day. There is nothing supernatural about it, unless you believe in that sort of thing, and the only heroes are those that others might think are exceptional for the good deeds they do in their lives to help others. Yuuri’s role isn’t very big—or so he thinks. He’s a professional figure skater and a sort of average one at that. Yet, much of his decisions and the way he inspires others drives the series, showcasing his ups and downs and how even those small things affect the people in his life -- to do better or be better in their own lives. It also illustrates Yuuri’s progression in finding his own love of skating again and that he can be greater than he’s always believed he’d ever be able to be.
PERSONALITY:
Yuuri believes he isn’t a complex enough person to draw in the attention of others. He likes dogs and food. He forgets to write home when he’s abroad. He’s average. However, Yuuri is so much more than that.
At the beginning of the series, Yuuri’s self-esteem is at an all-time Low. After having failed to place in the GPF of the previous year, he’d sunk into a depression that lasted for almost a year because he suffers from what people tend to call “a glass heart”. He’s easily swayed by the opinions of others, and considering the fact he does have a lot of social anxiety (because of his poor self-esteem), it tends to affect his performance on the ice and his daily activities in life. It took him a little longer than most to finally graduate college, and in that time, he’d stopped skating, gained weight -- since he has a problem with “eating his problems” -- and sort of lost direction of his life. Still, that spark for what he’d left home for shined bright in him and inspired Viktor to become his coach so that he would continue skating and reach gold.
When Yuuri takes to the ice, there is a noticeable difference in his demeanor, which hints at something deeper to him besides the skittish sort of behavior he exudes most of the time. Because he does have anxiety, he pushes that out and shuts it off as he falls into the rhythm of his skating, growing distant in his own personal feelings and opening his heart to the audience. It causes him to look almost cold while he’s skating, but it’s actually quite the opposite—people can’t take their eyes from him. He is too stubborn to really quit when there’s actually something worth going after, and as the months go by, with Viktor as his coach, he realizes just how much he wants to prove to the world (and himself) that he can do more than he’d thought he was capable of. Despite his age, Yuuri has skill, and his exceptional stamina are a big driving force behind that competitive spirit that most athletes already have. In this same vein, he is exceptionally stubborn and decent at improvising if he knows he’s fallen behind; in terms of skating, this is shown a few times when he’s altered his routine mid-skate in an effort to gain more points. If he puts his mind to it, he can succeed.
Still, even with those stronger personality quirks hiding in him, Yuuri is just… Yuuri. He’s quiet and kind-hearted, often trying to encourage others to do their best even if they are rivals. Unbeknownst to him, he inspires. He drives Yurio to be better, pushing him past his own physical limits with the way he skates, and Yuuri’s sweetness as well as conviction opens up Viktor’s eyes to things that have been forgotten after years of winning competitions. And what’s more, despite his capacity to be easily embarrassed by the simplest thing, he can make friends easily and isn’t as extremely reserved when it comes to being affectionate with hugs or casual touches.
Other things to note about Yuuri: he’s a lightweight drunk and tends to forget anything that happens if he goes too far beyond his limit. Yet, it opens up a wild, more surprising side to him that others would never associate with someone like Yuuri. (This is how he became friends with Chris; they pole-danced together at the GPF after-party.) He loves all kinds of dance and finds comfort in being alone when he’s suffering from an anxious episode, especially if it’s on the ice. Gradually, he becomes more confident in his own abilities as a skater, growing as a person who isn’t so timid, and no matter what anyone says, there is nothing average about Yuuri’s kindness.
POWER:
( Yuuri has no canon super powers except his high stamina. )

[ While scrolling through his Instagram feed or sometimes posting on social media doesn't leave him full of dread (most of the time), there's something intimidating about addressing everyone directly with what begins as entirely lame—or so Yuuri feels. ]
Hi! My name is Katsuki Yuuri, and I'm new here.
This might be strange to ask, but if you see something weird in the news about me, please ignore it. I'm so sorry if this inconveniences anyone.
[ His momentary trip to another city has left a permanent mark on his reputation, whatever it might (or might not) be here. ]
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE: from the tdm
FINAL NOTES: Mostly N/A. His inventory would consist of his clothes, a pair of skates, his ring, and probably his cell phone.
→ Eros
↳ manipulation of love / affection. This is only in regards to how others view Yuuri himself and is not a power that can potentially make people fall in love with each other. Rather, people quickly become enamored or fall in love with Yuuri. Intensity would depend on their interactions with him on a daily basis ( “the heart grows fonder” except it has nothing to do with absence ), and Yuuri is not aware of it at all—at least not at first. It’s more of a subtle sort of passion that would differ depending on the person and their relationship with Yuuri. However, it would grow very intense and almost unbearable for both Yuuri -- with regards to a connection point ( think soulmates tied together by a red thread ) -- and the other person if they happened to be present when he skates. [ permission post for this ]
↳ fire manipulation. Because Eros is “love”, this represents the passion aspect of it. However, it won’t be something noticeable right away, and in fact, it might take quite some time for Yuuri to even realize he has the ability. It begins with his skin feeling a bit warmer (maybe his hands) when he feels comfortable and loved in the company of those he cares for, and it will gradually grow stronger as he feels more at ease in his surroundings. This isn’t something exceptionally powerful; in fact, it’s a muted sort of ability that will eventually leave him with the capability of feeling much too hot to the touch in varying levels based on his emotions. At most, he’d be able to melt the ice he skates on or burn someone (accidentally) but not set anything on fire unless under extreme duress.
→ Katsu
↳ meat control. Power over the element of meat, which means manipulation of raw meat into any shape desired. This could also mean the control of the muscle in organic beings, but Yuuri would never abuse a power like this. It is entirely useless and may not even be discovered at any point in-game.
